2009-10
Overview
The Omega Youth Leadership Academy is a comprehensive community based youth development program designed to effectively empower and educate males of color in 7th - 12th grades on how to face and overcome social and personal challenges through a year-long curriculum that includes bi-monthly seminars and workshops, in addition to providing culturally competent educational enrichment and personal growth activities.
Objectives
To inspire, empower and facilitate African centered leadership training to middle school and high school males of color that will enable youth to realize their academic goals and personal potential. This will take place through academic and personal growth seminars, workshops, service learning projects, along with local and national academic and social enrichment programs.
Admission
Potential candidates are:
· Currently enrolled in 6th-12th grade
· Males of color who are U.S. citizens
· Must complete application and display sincere desire to be apart of the academy
· Open to youth throughout the Phoenix metropolitan areas
2009-10 Programming
O.Y.L.A.is proud to announce a collaborative partnership with Sierra Linda High School. The new 55 acre state of the art school is located in the southwest valley of Phoenix, Arizona and will serve as a host facility for numerous events.
Programming traditionally runs January through December. Events include workshop, service projects, OYLA Summer Institutes, along with numerous educational and enrichments trips both locally and nationally. This is includes our much celebrated enrichment tours of national historic sites and Historical Black Colleges and Universities.
